When it comes to offensive playmakers, they could get Justin Herbert more help. Jennings is still on the market, which is surprising, considering his recent production. He put up a career-best 945 yards in 2024, led all 49ers wideouts in receiving yards last season, and has 15 touchdowns over the last two years.</p><p>The 28-year-old may have priced himself out of the market to begin the offseason, but Los Angeles has the third-most cap space and can afford to make a late splurge. All nine of Jennings' touchdowns and 88% of his receiving yards in 2025 came on throws traveling fewer than 20 air yards, making him a potential security blanket for Herbert. They ranked 31st in pressure rate last year and haven't done anything to address the position this offseason. Getting Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams back healthy will provide a boost, but San Francisco lost Bryce Huff to retirement. The team needs a deeper rotation of edge rushers if it wants to compete for a Super Bowl. And while GM John Lynch <a href="https://x.com/VicTafur/status/2038330565838155813?s=20">said</a> Sunday that Bosa is too expensive, it's possible the veteran's asking price will come down the longer he stays unsigned.</p><h3>Kirk Cousins ➡️ Raiders</h3><p>Cousins is the most intriguing quarterback left in free agency. The Falcons went 5-3 in his eight starts last season, and he threw for 1,721 passing yards and 10 touchdowns in total. Although the 37-year-old was solid down the stretch, he appears to have little to no market right now.</p><p>Well, the team picking No. 1 overall in this year's draft is a great fit. Las Vegas is expected to select Fernando Mendoza, who would join Aidan O'Connell as the only signal-callers on the roster. Raiders GM John Spytek told reporters in late February that he's not in favor of starting a rookie quarterback right away. If they don't plan on throwing Mendoza out there Week 1, why not have Cousins mentor the Heisman Trophy winner? The opportunity to start is likely a significant factor in Cousins' decision on where to sign, and the arrangement would give Mendoza the chance to learn from a veteran with 174 career games.</p><h3>Cameron Jordan ➡️ Eagles</h3><p>The Eagles will add a starting-caliber edge rusher at some point; it's just a matter of when. It's clear how much GM Howie Roseman values the position, and losing Jaelan Phillips in free agency makes it arguably the biggest hole on the roster. Philly signed Arnold Ebiketie during the first week of free agency, plus Brandon Graham could return. They also recently signed Joe Tryon-Shoyinka - but he's not a lock to make the roster - meaning the club still needs more bodies on the defensive line.</p><p>Jordan is searching for a new team for the first time in his career following a 15-year run with the Saints. Despite being at the tail end of his career, he totaled 10.5 sacks and 30 pressures in 17 games last season. GM Eliot Wolf said that the team hasn't ruled out bringing him back on a cheaper deal, but it seems unlikely, considering it gave Romeo Doubs a four-year, $68-million contract.</p><p>The Ravens adding Diggs makes a ton of sense. For starters, GM Eric DeCosta has targeted veteran receivers in the past, including DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham Jr., and DeSean Jackson. Diggs has more in the tank than those former contributors did, and he would be a solid second option across from Zay Flowers. With Rashod Bateman taking a step back last season and Lamar Jackson needing another reliable target, Baltimore should add another pass-catcher before the season starts.</p><h3>Taylor Decker ➡️ Steelers</h3><p>Decker is still on the open market after requesting his release from the Lions in early March. The two sides couldn't agree on compensation for the upcoming season, so the former first-round pick is seeking a new home for the first time in his career.</p><p>The 32-year-old is coming off a solid season in which he allowed just two sacks and 28 pressures in 551 pass-blocking snaps. He's still a starting-caliber left tackle, and the Steelers should be in the market for one. Broderick Jones underwent fusion surgery to repair a season-ending neck injury, leaving his status for 2026 unclear. Dylan Cook did fine replacing Jones last season, but he's only made five career starts, all of which came in 2025. Adding Decker to the fold would answer the team's question at left tackle.</p><h3>Marshon Lattimore ➡️ Bills</h3><p>The Bills have made a couple of big moves this offseason, acquiring DJ Moore from the Bears for a second-round pick and giving edge rusher Bradley Chubb a three-year, $43-million deal. Buffalo also signed defensive backs Dee Alford and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, but they're both slot guys, and it could use another body on the outside.</p><p>Lattimore has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, playing just 11 games for the Commanders after they acquired him in November 2024. He hasn't looked like the shutdown corner he once was with the Saints, but the 29-year-old might still have some good football left in him. Even if the Chiefs select a wide receiver at the top of the draft in April, they could use an established veteran on the roster.</p><p>Hill underwent surgery to repair a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments after suffering a gruesome injury in late September. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return to the field, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said he will play in 2026. Hill earned three first-team All-Pro nods during his six-year tenure with Kansas City, so we've seen this pairing thrive in the past. Patrick Mahomes and the offense have struggled to hit deep shots in recent years, as he ranks 34th among 39 qualifying signal-callers in completion percentage on throws of 20-plus air yards since 2023. If Hill can still stretch the field after recovering from his injury, a reunion could benefit both sides.</p><h3>Deebo Samuel ➡️ Panthers</h3><p>Carolina has been active in free agency, giving Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd massive contracts to help shore up its defense. It also signed Rasheed Walker, who could ultimately be a starting tackle in Week 1, at a great price. Despite those moves, the club still need more weapons for Bryce Young.</p><p>The Xavier Legette experiment may be on its last leg, as the 2024 first-round pick hasn't delivered the production that the Panthers hoped for. Samuel would bring a catch-and-run dimension to the Carolina's offense, complementing Tetairoa McMillan's deep-threat ability in the process. The 30-year-old is coming off a bounce-back season with the Commanders in which he recorded 727 yards on 72 catches and his 53.5% receiving success rate was much higher than his 2024 mark of 40.7%. The former All-Pro wideout would add a nice wrinkle to the Panthers' offense.</p><h3>David Njoku ➡️ Broncos</h3><p>After a quiet start to their offseason, the Broncos made a huge splash by acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Dolphins for first- and third-round picks. Waddle provides a vertical threat that should perfectly complement Courtland Sutton on the outside, but Denver could still look to upgrade the tight end position.</p><p>Evan Engram played well enough for the Broncos last year, and he's expected to return in 2026, but Njoku's presence would give them a legit red-zone target. Engram scored only one red-zone touchdown in 16 games last season, whereas Njoku had four in 12 games with the Browns. The Blue Devils own real estate at the free-throw line this tournament, and that spells trouble for a Huskies team that's 227th in the nation in foul rate.</p><p>Finally, Duke is healthy at the right time. Patrick Ngongba II returned earlier this tournament, and Caleb Foster came back for the Sweet 16 after missing the last three weeks. Foster scored 11 points in 19 minutes. The team's doctors said that the edge rusher could play in 2026, but Baltimore remained concerned about his long-term durability, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48287941/las-vegas-raiders-baltimore-ravens-maxx-crosby-trade">ESPN's Ryan McFadden</a>. Those within the Raiders organization are reportedly skeptical that Crosby's medicals were the sole reason that the trade didn't go through.</p><p>Crosby underwent knee surgery in early January to repair a meniscus tear and a related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. Not to mention Mikel Brown Jr., Louisville's best player, sat in the opener and hasn't played since the end of February. Meanwhile, Michigan State has won six of its last eight games. Jeremy Fears Jr. has a case as the best floor general in the sport. Vanderbilt ended the season by making a run to the SEC Tournament final and boasts one of the best guards in the country in Tyler Tanner. The sophomore star ranked fifth in the country in steals this season and should give the Cornhuskers fits on the perimeter.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Nebraska is a much better matchup for Vanderbilt than the physical Cowboys, and the Cornhuskers are coming off the emotional high of the program's first-ever March Madness victory. It's unlikely the Huskers will repeat Thursday's shooting performance against a Vanderbilt team that's 31st in KenPom's defensive rating, and the Commodores are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games. The Longhorns are coming off an impressive win over AJ Dybantsa and BYU, and I love them to keep it rolling in this matchup.</p><p>Gonzaga ranks 298th in 3-point attempts per game, and Texas' defensive weakness is getting lit up from deep, so the Bulldogs aren't exactly poised to take advantage. The Longhorns' 7-foot center, Matas Vokietaitis, is coming off a 26-point, 16-rebound performance, and he could cause problems for a Zags defense that can't match his size. Gonzaga didn't look good in the opening round and will once again likely be without one of its best players in Braden Huff. The Wolverines struggled against 16-seed Howard, their Round of 64 opponent, leading by just four points at halftime before pulling away in the second half.</p><p>That continues a troubling trend for Michigan, which has looked beatable over the last few weeks and lost some depth when L.J. Cason suffered a season-ending injury. Michigan star Yaxel Lendeborg is dealing with a lingering injury and only attempted five shots in the tournament opener. Picking TCU to upset Duke has less to do with the Blue Devils choking and more to do with TCU being wildly underrated. The Horned Frogs' balanced scoring attack, led by playmaking big David Punch, complements their physical, tenacious defense. They attack the offensive glass, rarely turn it over, and get to the free-throw line: a winning formula to control the possession battle and pull off an upset.</p><p>Siena laid the blueprint for limiting Duke and freshman Cameron Boozer - despite scoring 22 points, he looked uncomfortable and was inefficient. Siena's ball pressure and physicality bothered Duke, and TCU is equipped to replicate it. Two of Duke's top four leading scorers - Caleb Foster and Patrick Ngongba - missed the tourney opener and are likely out again. Because they're in a difficult region, and I wouldn't touch them the rest of the way. They'll likely play UConn in the Sweet 16 and then Duke, Kansas, or St. John's in the Elite Eight. Michigan State will be an underdog in most of those scenarios, so let's use it now.</p><h3>Deeg - Illinois </h3><p>This is a great spot to pick a 3-seed before using some of the top teams in the tournament. Illinois rolled in its first game against Penn and boasts one of the most lethal offenses in the country. The Fighting Illini rank first in KenPom's offensive rating metric, and VCU doesn't have the defensive talent to match up. Akron is one of the country's best 3-point shooting teams and plays an up-tempo style that Texas Tech's defense can't contain. I can't envision a scenario where the Red Storm lose to a bad Northern Iowa squad averaging the fewest points per game among all 68 tournament teams. The Red Storm are significantly more talented and athletic than the Panthers, and they're too well-coached to be upset in this spot. But as was the case with Arkansas on Thursday, I don't feel comfortable taking St. John's any later - the team would likely play Kansas in the Round of 32 and then Duke in the Sweet 16 (if both teams advance). So we might as well burn the Johnnies now.</p><h3>Deeg - Purdue</h3><p>With Oshtry picking St. John's, I'll take a 2-seed Friday and choose the Boilermakers. Purdue is a 25.5-point favorite over a Queens University team that can score but ranks 345th in defensive rating and 260th in steals. Coming off an incredible run in the Big Ten Tournament, the Boilermakers are one of the hottest teams in the country. Ohio State's defense, meanwhile, ranks outside the top 50 and won't stop TCU forward David Punch. The Cornhuskers are a streaky offensive team that relies heavily on jacking a ton of threes - Nebraska attempts more than 50% of its field goals from long range. When Nebraska's hot, it's virtually unbeatable. But variance makes 3-pointer-heavy teams susceptible to upsets. You know the saying: Live by the three, die by the three. Plus, Troy has defended the arc well all season. Since he suffered a season-ending injury, the Tar Heels are 5-3, and three of those wins came against teams at the bottom of the ACC. North Carolina is barely a tournament team without Wilson, creating an upset opportunity for VCU. Three Rams players are shooting 40% or better from deep. Avila and the Billikens lead all tournament teams in effective field-goal percentage (59.7%) and shoot over 40% from the 3-point line.</p><p>Georgia's offense ranks third in points per game, but it's 175th in the nation in 3-point percentage (34.1%), and it's extremely streaky. Saint Louis is also good at limiting teams from deep, sitting eighth in the nation in opponent 3-point percentage.</p><p>The biggest difference in this game is that Saint Louis is solid defensively and Georgia doesn't show up on that side of the ball, ranking 302nd in points per game allowed (79.2) among all D-I programs. It's been Georgia's Achilles' heel all season, and the Billikens are the perfect team to exploit that weakness. However, 24.5-point favorite Illinois is primed to light up the scoreboard after a disappointing loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament.</p><p>Illinois averages 84.4 points per game and is second nationally in KenPom's offensive rating. The team scored at least 88 points in games against Purdue, Missouri, and Ohio State this season - all much better opponents than the Quakers.</p><p>Penn likes to play fast, which should lead to a ton of turnovers that the Fighting Illini can convert into quick points. When the Quakers' competition leveled up this season, Penn allowed 90 points to Villanova and 106 to Providence. The Cowboys won their opening-round game as a 12-seed last year after being selected as a popular upset pick. While it's a different team with a different coach, McNeese State plays at a slower pace, focusing on winning the possession battle.</p><p>The Cowboys rank first in the nation in turnover margin and second in turnovers forced. Meanwhile, the Commodores struggle to take care of the ball, committing the nation's 23rd-most turnovers.</p><p>Limiting the possessions in a game against a more talented team is crucial, which is why McNeese State is equipped to win. The Bulls force turnovers at the 13th-highest rate in the nation and attack the glass at will, ranking fourth in rebounds per contest. Izaiyah Nelson, the American Conference Player of the Year, is one of the most exciting forwards in the tournament and can defend all five positions.</p><p>Louisville is a top-25 team on KenPom but won't have Mikel Brown Jr., its best player, who hasn't taken the floor since Feb. 28 due to a back injury.</p><p>The Cardinals have lost four of their last eight games, while the Bulls have won 11 straight. Bulls head coach Bryan Hodgson is from the Nate Oats coaching tree and loves to play up-tempo. Here's how it works: You pick one team to win each day, and you can't use that team again for the rest of the tournament. If that team wins, you're still in the running. If your pick loses, you're eliminated.</p><p>Don't waste your early-round picks on the top seeds. The soundest strategy for the first couple of days is picking teams that you think can escape the Round of 64 but don't have much of a chance of going deep in the tournament. With that in mind, here are our Thursday survivor picks.</p><h3>Oshtry - Arkansas</h3><p>Arkansas has the talent to make a serious run, as evidenced by winning the SEC Tournament. It also boasts one of the best players in the country in Darius Acuff Jr. However, the Razorbacks got a tough path, likely facing Wisconsin in the Round of 32 and Arizona in the Sweet 16. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking Arkansas in either game, especially against a dangerous Wisconsin team. Hawaii, which is a 15.5-point underdog, doesn't pose much of a threat in the opening round, especially against an experienced tournament coach in John Calipari. I'll use Arkansas on Day 1 and hope the Razorbacks don't advance much further.</p><h3>Deeg - Gonzaga </h3><p>Taking teams seeded 3-5 is the best way to attack survivor pools in the first two days, and Gonzaga is a great selection to start the tournament. It's a 20.5-point favorite against Kennesaw State, and the program hasn't lost a first-round March Madness game since Steph Curry and Davidson took the Bulldogs down in 2008.</p><p>The Owls need to dominate inside to succeed - they ranked 211th in field-goal percentage but 23rd in rebounds. However, Gonzaga sits inside the top 25 in rebounds and the top 10 in KenPom's defensive rating. The Bulldogs' offense will run through Graham Ike early and often, and he'll be too much for Kennesaw State to handle. The Owls also ranked last in the country in defensive free-throw rate, so I expect Gonzaga to live at the line.
