The Jets have since been linked to Alabama's Ty Simpson, who should be available when they select early in the second round. Alternatively, they may look to next year's loaded quarterback class, headlined by Arch Manning, and attempt to land another top pick in 2027.</p><p>But Murray, who turns 29 in August, would provide the team with upside at the position that it hasn't seen since drafting Sam Darnold in 2018. And New York would be a solid place for Murray to restart his career, even with its abysmal track record at quarterback. Prior to last season, head coach Kevin O'Connell was considered the quarterback whisperer for elevating the play of Darnold, Joshua Dobbs, and Nick Mullens in recent seasons. Sanders is in line to be the Week 1 starter this fall, but that won't inspire much confidence among Browns fans.</p><p>Murray may fit well in Cleveland, which hired Todd Monken as its new head coach in January. Monken has plenty of experience working with quarterbacks who often use their legs after spending three years alongside Lamar Jackson as the Ravens' offensive coordinator.</p><p>The Browns may not have the sexiest group of offensive players among the quarterback-needy teams, but they do have the best defense by far. We're two weeks removed from Rory McIlroy's runner-up result at the Genesis Invitational, marking our third second-place showing in our last four previews. Thank goodness Chris Gotterup pulled off a victory or this would have been a frustrating stretch.</p><p>We turn the page to this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, another signature event and the appetizer to next week's Players Championship. </h3><p>The odds may be a tad shorter than we'd like, but Fitzpatrick is playing too well to ignore. His current ball-striking resembles what we saw out of him in a 2022 stretch when he won the U.S. Open. He's also just two tournaments removed from the best week of approach play he's recorded in his career.</p><p>The Englishman is second in the field behind McIlroy in strokes gained: tee to green over the past 12 rounds, but a wonky putter has kept him out of contention. Thankfully, Fitzpatrick putts extremely well on Bay Hill's greens; he's played this tournament 11 times and never lost strokes putting. He was a runner-up at Bay Hill in 2019 and has five other top-15 results. </h3><p>I'm targeting undervalued players with my next two selections, starting with Schauffele. It's been a while since the two-time major winner has contended at a marquee event, but he's trending in the right direction. He was third in strokes gained: tee to green at the Genesis Invitational, propelling him to a T7 result. He's improved upon each of his four results this season after missing the cut at Torrey Pines in his first tournament of 2026.</p><p>Schauffele doesn't have a stellar track record at Bay Hill, but he has two top-25 results and no finish worse than T40 in four appearances. He's gained strokes off the tee in three of four starts and gained more than three strokes on the greens twice. The Swede is also trending toward the form we've come to expect from the two-time Ryder Cupper. He finished T20 at the Genesis Invitational, gaining nearly five total strokes on the field over the final three rounds. Had it not been for a tough Thursday, Aberg would have secured a top-10 result at Riviera.</p><p>Aberg has played the Arnold Palmer Invitational three times in his young career and has never finished worse than T25. Bain's measurables, mainly his arm length, are raising some concerns, but his tape speaks for itself.</p><p>Many people believe Caleb Downs is the best player in the entire draft, but he's being docked because he's a safety. The positional value of a safety is much lower than that of an elite pass-rusher, which is why Downs may slide. The last safety drafted with a top-10 pick was Jamal Adams in 2017 - selected, coincidentally, by the Jets.</p><p>Downs' Buckeyes teammate Sonny Styles is in a similar situation. He's a traditional off-ball linebacker - another position that isn't as desirable at the top of the draft - but his jaw-dropping numbers at the combine turned heads.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

But a quick start to 2026 has him back inside the top five in the Official World Golf Ranking, and he'll be among the favorites at the Players Championship in three weeks.</p><h3><a id="Reed" name="Reed">Reed domination</a></h3><p>Patrick Reed left LIV Golf but can't return to the PGA TOUR until the current season is over. In the meantime, Reed is asserting his dominance on the DP World Tour with two victories and a runner-up showing in four starts. He's climbed from 44th in the world to 17th, and he'll be one to track ahead of the Masters, a tournament he won in 2018. Finishing third at Augusta last year, Reed could be in some of his best form in a long time ahead of the 2026 edition. </h3><p>I'm going to bypass tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler (+300) even though he feels primed to win again and go with the second favorite instead.</p><p>McIlroy's never won at Riveira but, after winning Pebble Beach last year, he made it known he wants to win all of the PGA TOUR's biggest events at the best courses. The Genesis Invitational falls into that bucket. The reigning Masters champ has played well at the L.A. venue throughout his career, with two top-five showings and four additional top-25 results in eight appearances.</p><p>Last week was very promising for McIlroy. He ranked third in strokes gained: tee to green, came fourth in strokes gained: approach, and finished brilliantly with an 8-under closing round. He was third in birdies with 25 and only made three bogeys all week. However, three double-bogeys and a triple-bogey derailed his chances. If he'd turned those four forgettable holes into bogeys, he'd have met Morikawa in a playoff.</p><p>Riviera will play extremely long this week because of the rain that's fallen leading into the event. That will play to McIlroy's strengths as one of the longest drivers and best long-iron players in the field. </h3><p>I was on Fitzpatrick last week at a similar number, and even though he didn't win, he played well enough to make me want to go back to the well. </p><p>Fitzpatrick finished T14 at Pebble Beach but was third in strokes gained: approach and 10th off the tee. Had he not lost an uncharacteristic three strokes around the green, he would have had a much better finish.</p><p>I trust Fitzpatrick to carry his strong form into a U.S. Open-caliber venue that will reward quality long-iron play. His distance will give him a leg up on the wet Riviera, and his long-iron play should allow him to separate from the pack. Rashee Rice, who's supposed to be Mahomes' No. 1 option, has struggled to stay on the field due to injuries and suspensions. </h3><p>I'm going to bypass the favorites - Scheffler, McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele - and open the betting card with Fitzpatrick at +3500.</p><p>The Englishman knocked off the offseason rust at The American Express then came in ninth at the Phoenix Open, thanks to some stellar tee-to-green numbers. He was seventh in the field in strokes gained: off the tee, 10th in approach, and 11th around the green. Had Fitzpatrick not lost 1.5 strokes putting for the week, he would've been firmly in contention with Gotterup and Matsuyama late Sunday.</p><p>Now, Fitzpatrick gets to play two courses (Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill) that suit his game perfectly. He finished T6 at the event in 2022 and placed T12 at the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. That means it's a great time to buy.</p><p>Like Fitzpatrick, Straka was rusty at The American Express but rebounded nicely at TPC Scottsdale. He was eighth in the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green yet couldn't get any putts to drop. Although the bumpy poa greens at Pebble Beach aren't his preferred surface, he's historically a field-average putter on poa, which may be all he needs to win.</p><p>The Austrian won a signature event last year at a wedge-heavy Philadelphia Cricket Club. </h3><p>If Straka is a good course fit, then Lowry has to be as well. The Irishman has been a runner-up in two of Straka's four TOUR victories, largely because of their similar styles. Both players are extremely accurate driving the ball and elite with a wedge in their hands.</p><p>Lowry placed second to McIlroy at this tournament last year and has T14 and T21 showings in his six career appearances at the event. He played twice on the DP World Tour to start 2026 and would've won his first start in Dubai had it not been for a costly water ball on his final hole leading to a double-bogey. Before claiming victory in 2021, he tied for fifth in 2020 and tied for 10th during his first appearance in 2015. Bettors are clearly bullish on what McDaniel can do with Justin Herbert and a presumably healthy offensive line.</p><p>Chin up, Patriots fans. New England is +1500 to redeem itself after a disappointing Super Bowl showing. How about the Commanders at +5000? At this point last year, Washington had just played in the NFC championship, and Jayden Daniels was considered as a top-five quarterback in the league. However, after a disastrous 2025, the team's odds have plummeted. The 28-year-old quarterback has shut down any questions about his oblique injury, and he's coming off arguably the best game of his career.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Seahawks' most significant advantage is their pass rush versus the Patriots' offensive line. Their unit can get into the backfield without sending extra bodies; Seattle ranked fourth in pressure rate when not blitzing this season. New England, on the other hand, ranked 29th in pressure rate allowed when teams rushed four or fewer players. Drake Maye has looked uncomfortable in the pocket of late, and his pressure-to-sack rate through three postseason games is an absurd 45.5%. To put that into perspective, Geno Smith had the highest rate of any quarterback in the regular season at 25.9%. The Patriots' offensive line hasn't played well lately, and Mike Macdonald is the best in the business at exposing poor play up front.</p><p>As evidenced by past Super Bowls, teams that can create pressure with only four rushers often hoist the Lombardi Trophy. For starters, we know the underdog trend: They've covered five straight Super Bowls and 17 of the last 24. Furthermore, favorites of at least 4.5 points are 1-10 against the spread since 2000. Underdogs deserve consideration in every Super Bowl - but especially this one. I strongly believe the Seahawks aren't a field goal better than the Patriots at a neutral site.</p><p>While Deeg makes a great point that Maye has struggled in the postseason against strong fronts, which Seattle owns, two weeks of rest and preparation should help him deliver on the biggest stage. With that said, this pick is more about New England's defense, which has limited opponents all season. For those claiming the Patriots faced an easy path to the Super Bowl, let's start by acknowledging that they had the NFL's fourth-best scoring defense during the regular season. They've been a consistently dominant group all year. As for their playoff opponents, isn't Justin Herbert universally recognized as a top-10 quarterback, and wasn't C.J. Stroud in that conversation two seasons ago? Don't move the goalposts just because New England's defense stifled them and their offensive lines.</p><p>While Darnold's incredible NFC championship performance silenced critics, he hasn't earned complete trust in huge games. He's prone to turnovers, which the Patriots' defense will capitalize on. What I don't envision is a blowout, as I believe the contest will be decided in the fourth quarter.</p><p>Both teams rely heavily on their defenses to win games, and both quarterbacks are playing in their first Super Bowl. This could easily turn into a defensive struggle, especially in the first half as both sides battle through nerves and feel out each other's game plan.</p><p>Moving the game total from 45.5 to 49.5 covers me if Seattle wins 28-21. He ranked fifth in strokes gained: tee to green in three rounds at Torrey Pines South Course and second in strokes gained: off the tee. He's one of three players to start the season with three straight top-20 results. Coody dominated off the tee last week, gaining 4.4 strokes with his driver. </h3><p>These odds don't add up: Koepka is +3000 to win the tournament but has the same odds to finish top 20 as players like Garrick Higgo and Keith Mitchell, who are +10000 and +9000 in the outright market, respectively. Value aside, I still like Koepka's chances of cracking the top 20 at a tournament he's won twice in his career. That says a lot, since he has only four regular PGA TOUR victories.</p><p>Koepka hit the ball well in his return to the PGA TOUR, gaining over six strokes tee to green, but lost more than seven with his putter. You'd have to imagine his putter rebounds with more reps. </h3><blockquote><p><em>Patterson - Bet $100 to win $115</em></p></blockquote><p>I'll play the percentages and back the quarterback on the team that's favored to win.</p><p>The Seahawks are -225 on the moneyline (69.2% implied probability), and Darnold is +115 to win the MVP (46.5% implied probability). The odds imply there's roughly a 22% chance the Seahawks win and Darnold doesn't earn the honor, and that feels too high.</p><p>Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is next on the oddsboard for the Seahawks, is unlikely to have an explosive game against Christian Gonzalez, one of the best shutdown corners in the league. Smith-Njigba has the skills to beat Gonzalez - I just don't see the Seattle wideout producing an MVP-worthy performance.</p><p>Kenneth Walker III is a real threat, though. Without Zach Charbonnet, Walker should get the majority of the goal-line work and could break off a couple of long runs to rack up yards. Smith-Njigba would be the best candidate here, but he's got a tough matchup against one of the league's best cornerbacks in Gonzalez.</p><p>For a long-shot pick, no player has a better chance to change the game than Shaheed. For starters, he's Seattle's kickoff and punt returner, allowing him to make big plays throughout the contest. Shaheed has been one of the best returners in the league since joining the Seahawks on Nov. 4, ranking second in yards per kickoff return (33.2) and third in yards per punt return (16.2) during that stretch. His three return touchdowns are the most in the NFL since early November, and he ran one back against the 49ers in the divisional round.</p><p>Shaheed is also Seattle's No. 3 wide receiver and has run the fourth-most routes on the team since being acquired. He's played 50% of the offensive snaps in the postseason, and he hauled in a 51-yard reception in the conference title game. Shaheed's 11.3 air yards per target ranks first on the Seahawks, and he'll likely see a couple of downfield shots Sunday. He's also utilized as a runner on jet sweeps, totaling eight carries over his last 11 games.</p><p>Look, it's +4000, and this is a big swing, but if there's any long shot in this game worth taking, it's Shaheed. This game is projected to be a low-scoring defensive battle featuring shaky quarterback play. I'm predicting the Patriots will win. However, Drake Maye has struggled throughout the playoffs against elite defenses, and the Seahawks certainly fit that profile.</p><p>If the Patriots win because of their defense, a defensive player will take home MVP, which hasn’t happened since Von Miller in Super Bowl 50. Lockdown corner Gonzalez is the Patriots' best defensive player. While he didn't record an interception during the regular season, he had one in the AFC Championship Game against Denver. Darnold has thrown the third-most picks all season. He's susceptible to mistakes that New England and Gonzalez can capitalize on. We need him to snag one interception while the Patriots shut down the Seahawks' passing offense for him to warrant consideration, which makes this bet worth a shot at this absurdly long price.</p><p><em>US: Must be 21+.
