He's compiled 38 goals and 92 points in 248 games since signing a five-year, $30-million contract with the Devils in 2022.</p><p>Tsyplakov has struggled significantly in his sophomore NHL campaign, registering one goal and two points in 27 games. He notched 10 goals and 35 points in 77 appearances last year, his first season in North America after seven campaigns in the KHL.</p><p>The 27-year-old inked a two-year pact with a $2.25-million cap hit in July.</p><p>The Devils free up $3.75 million of cap space with the transaction.</p><p>The Islanders also acquired defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/6381" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/6381">Carson Soucy</a> from the New York Rangers on Monday.</p><p> </p>

<p><span style="margin:0px; padding:0px; text-align:left">Ottawa Senators defenseman <a target="_blank" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9188">Jake Sanderson</a> admitted Tuesday that he's "embarrassed" by his postgame comments about teammate <a target="_blank" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9225">Leevi Merilainen</a>, acknowledging his criticism of the goaltender was uncalled for.</span></p><p>"That's a situation where, after a game, you gotta take a few more minutes, take a few deep breaths. I talked to Leevi after and apologized. I still feel really bad," Sanderson <a href="https://www.nhl.com/senators/video/jake-sanderson-pregame-media-vs-cbj-6387995158112">said</a>. "Leevi's a great guy, and I think that's not what good teammates do. You don't tear each other down. You build each other up, especially after a game like that."</p><p>An irked Sanderson voiced his disappointment after the Senators surrendered a two-goal lead late in Saturday's third period and lost in overtime to the Montreal Canadiens. Merilainen allowed six goals on 19 shots.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I think Leevi made some good saves," Sanderson <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3458371" href="https://thescore.com/news/3458371">told</a> reporters following the contest. "But I think, at the end of the day, you've got to make more than 10 saves to win a game."</p><p>Ottawa demoted Merilainen to the AHL's Belleville Senators on Tuesday. He has an .860 save percentage and a 3.51 goals against average in 20 NHL games.</p><p>Senators head coach Travis Green downplayed Sanderson's comments Tuesday, <a href="https://www.nhl.com/senators/video/travis-green-pregame-media-vs-cbj-6387996414112">calling</a> the situation "overblown" and describing the blue-liner as "one of the best teammates you're ever going to find in the league."</p><p>Goaltending has been a season-long issue for the Sens, whose .870 team save percentage ranks last in the league. However, Sanderson stressed that the responsibility falls on all the players.</p><p>"It can be frustrating at times, but it's a team sport," Sanderson said. "There's times where the D core isn't playing good. There's times where the forwards aren't doing their job."</p><p>The Senators sit last in the Atlantic Division with a 22-19-7 record.</p>

He's in the final season of the $81.5-million deal he inked with the Rangers as a UFA in 2019. Panarin has a cap hit of just over $11.6 million and a full no-move clause.</p><p>The Rangers told Panarin that general manager Chris Drury will work with him and his agent to trade the forward to his preferred destination, Friedman reports, citing sources.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Drury <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3457129" href="https://thescore.com/news/3457129">issued a letter</a> to Rangers fans Friday signaling the club would enter a "smart and opportunistic" retool.</p><p>Panarin has 16 goals and 51 points in 47 games this season. Panarin notched a career-best 49 goals and 120 points in 2023-24.</p>

His first game in Toronto as an opponent will be on Jan. 23.</p><p>Despite his totals in the regular season, Marner received significant scrutiny for his lack of playoff success, as well as his contract dispute in 2019.</p><p>"Once the puck dropped, it just felt like another hockey game out there," said Marner, who had two assists. "Obviously, I know a lot of those guys very well, trying to read off some of the plays and do some of the things that I think they might do. It's a competitive game. He's experienced plenty of boos when he's played in Buffalo since being traded by the Sabres.</p><p>"We know how much it means to him, and because of how much it means to him, it means that much to us as well," Eichel said.</p><p>Marner appreciated the support from Eichel and Vegas' captain, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/1741" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/1741">Mark Stone</a>.</p><p>"Obviously, what Jack has gone through with his time of going back to play his old team, him and (Stone) have kind of felt that," Marner said. <p>Canada named its 23-player women's hockey roster for the Olympics.</p><p>The Canadian women are the defending gold medalists, having defeated the United States 3-2 in the gold-medal game at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.</p><p>But it hasn't been smooth sailing in recent clashes. Canada has lost five straight games against the U.S. and got swept in the Rivalry Series, including a record 10-4 loss in Edmonton.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Headlining the squad is captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who will be playing in her fifth Olympics. Poulin has scored three gold-medal-winning goals. He ranks sixth in the league with 1.42 points per game.</p><p>The 20-year-old was left off Canada's Olympic roster despite his offensive success.</p><p>The Blackhawks are 18-18-7 on the campaign and three points out of the second wild-card spot.</p>
