PARIS (AP) — Jean-Pierre Escalettes, a former president of the French Football Federation, has died. He was 90.His death was confirmed by the federation in a statement on Tuesday. No further details were given.“Jean-Pierre Escalettes dedicated his entire life to our sport, which he served with passion, humanity, and loyalty,” the FFF said, sending “its sincerest and warmest thoughts to his family (and) loved ones.”<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Escalettes was the president from 2005-10. During his tenure France reached the 2006 World Cup final under coach Raymond Domenech and Escalettes played a key role in helping France win the right to host the 2016 European Championship.However, he was criticized for keeping Domenech in position after France was eliminated at the group stage at Euro 2008 without winning a game. Domenech kept his job despite the poor showing at Euro 2008 and upset fans by proposing live on television to his girlfriend moments after France lost to Italy to exit the tournament.France was also winless at the 2010 World Cup and departed after the group stage in South Africa.There were open conflicts between the squad and team management during the tournament. At one point, France players boycotted a training session to protest forward Nicolas Anelka being thrown off the team. NEW YORK (AP) — Matt Crocker quit as sporting director of the U.S. Soccer Federation on Tuesday, just two months ahead of the World Cup, to take a new job in Saudi Arabia.The USSF said Crocker was leaving to pursue an unidentified international soccer opportunity, and a person familiar with the decision, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Crocker’s new job was not announced, said he will work in Saudi Arabia. His hiring by Saudis was first reported by Fox.Crocker’s departure was a surprise, given the U.S. is co-host of the World Cup starting June 11 and the contract of men’s coach Mauricio Pochettino ends after the tournament. The USSF next month will open its 200-acre, 17-field training center and office complex in Fayetteville, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Dan Helfrich, hired as the U.S. federation’s chief operating officer in November, “will provide executive oversight and support across the federation’s sporting operations,” the USSF said in a statement. (AP) — Former <a href="https://apnews.com/hub/michigan-wolverines-football">Michigan football</a> coach <a href="https://apnews.com/article/sherrone-moore-michigan-ecc29f440a54659c40a98b02f3b534ce">Sherrone Moore</a> faces a sentencing hearing Tuesday for misdemeanors related to a confrontation with his executive assistant soon after Moore's firing for having an inappropriate relationship with her.
Moore <a href="https://apnews.com/article/sherrone-moore-michigan-football-stalking-charges-a06f4a64bb8743b53e20622fa92df6f9">pleaded no contest</a> in March to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device. The maximum possible penalty is six months in jail, though he has no previous criminal record and the judge will have much discretion to keep him out of custody.
Moore, 40, was fired on Dec. 10 after leading the Wolverines for two seasons, following <a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jim-harbaugh">Jim Harbaugh's move to the</a> NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. It was a stunning dismissal at one of college football's most prestigious programs.

Moore was accused that same day of confronting the woman with whom he had been having an affair and blaming her for his firing, even threatening to kill himself with butter knives in her apartment. Authorities said the woman had ended the affair and spoken to school officials about it.
Moore was charged with felony home invasion and two additional charges. But Washtenaw County prosecutors agreed to a deal in which he pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors. The felony charge was dropped.
The agreement came after defense lawyer Ellen Michaels planned to <a href="https://apnews.com/video/ex-michigan-football-coach-sherrone-moores-attorney-seeks-to-have-charges-dismissed-e07c02892ab24eb28a4904d0d717fd9e">aggressively challenge</a> how police gathered information to get an arrest warrant. 
Moore did not harm himself and was peacefully arrested in a parking lot away from the woman's apartment.
