Tyson: 'No regrets' about fighting Paul
Mike Tyson doesn't regret returning to professional boxing for Friday's blockbuster fight against Jake Paul.
"This is one of those situations when you lost but still won," Tyson wrote Saturday on X, his first public comments since exiting the ring. "I'm grateful for last night. No regrets to get in (the) ring one last time."
Tyson, 58, suffered a unanimous decision loss to Paul, 27, in an eight-round bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event streamed live on Netflix.
The former heavyweight champion said in his postfight interview he wasn't sure if he'd officially retire after the defeat.
Tyson was originally scheduled to face Paul in July but was forced to withdraw after suffering an ulcer flare-up on a flight in May. He shed some light on the health scare last week, saying he threw up blood and lost a total of 26 pounds. Tyson shared even more horrifying details Saturday.
"I almost died in June," he wrote. "Had eight blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25 pounds in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight. So, I won."
Tyson competed for the first time since a 2020 exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. It was his first professional fight in 19 years.
"To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish eight rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboys stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for," Tyson wrote.
