Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix may be interested in making an early-season trade again, but three games into the 2025 campaign is too early for him to deal star pitcher Sandy Alcantara.

"It's not even April, so I understand where the questions are coming from," Bendix said, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. "But until we get to the point of even considering trades, it's not really something that I have much to comment on, other than it's really great to see Sandy looking healthy, looking normal. It's Game 3 of the season."

A possible Alcantara trade floated about during the offseason and into spring training, but the idea picked up additional steam after the right-hander struck out seven in his first start since returning from Tommy John surgery on Opening Day against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bendix, who surprisingly traded batting champion Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres for four prospects last May, said he would consider making another early-season trade if it was best for the Marlins.

"We're always open to anything that is going to make our organization better," Bendix said. "It's unusual for there to be moves like that, right? But obviously, we're open-minded to it."

Alcantara won the 2022 National League Cy Young Award and is eligible for free agency following the 2026 campaign. He's owed $17.3 million in 2025 and 2026 and has a $21-million team option for 2027.
