The Boston Red Sox acquired right-hander Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielders James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard, the teams announced Thursday.

May owns a 4.85 ERA with an 8.4 K/9 in 104 innings this season. He'll join a Red Sox rotation that includes ace Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello, Walker Buehler, and Lucas Giolito.

Boston also has five other starters on the injured list.

May missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn esophagus, an injury he sustained while recovering from a flexor tendon issue in his elbow.

The 27-year-old is owed the remainder of his $2.135-million salary for this season before becoming a free agent at the end of the campaign.

Tibbs ranked as Boston's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft by the San Francisco Giants, who traded him to the Red Sox in a June deal involving Rafael Devers.

The 22-year-old combined to post a .763 OPS in 86 minor-league games for the Red Sox and Giants' affiliates this season.

Ehrhard posted an .805 OPS with 45 RBIs and 23 steals in the minors this campaign.
