The Miami Marlins appear poised to trade from a position of strength, looking to build a competitive team for years to come.

There's a strong possibility the Marlins will move one of Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera, or Ryan Weathers, sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal.

Alcantara and Cabrera have remained on the trade block since last season and have continued to attract interest from several teams, while multiple clubs are looking at Weathers, add Sammon and Rosenthal.

Alcantara returned to the majors last season after missing all of 2024 following Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old had an up-and-down campaign that featured a 7.22 ERA in the first half and a 3.33 ERA after the All-Star break. He's owed $17 million next season and has a $21-million team option for 2027.

Cabrera put together one of his best campaigns in 2025, posting a 3.53 ERA in a career-high 26 starts. The 27-year-old right-hander is under club control until 2028 and projected to earn $3.7 million through arbitration, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Weathers was limited to eight starts last season because of injuries, including a lat strain. The 25-year-old recorded a 3.74 ERA in 125 innings over the past two campaigns.

Weathers won't be a free agent until 2029.
