The New York Yankees recalled shortstop Anthony Volpe from Triple-A, the team announced Tuesday.
Volpe's promotion coincides with a stint on the injured list for José Caballero, who has a fractured middle finger on his right hand.
Volpe hasn't appeared in the majors since last season, when he played in 153 games for the Yankees. The 25-year-old hit .212/.272/.391 with 19 home runs, 72 RBIs, and 18 steals in those contests.
Volpe was optioned to Triple-A on May 3 after being activated from the IL following his recovery from labrum surgery.
Caballero has played well for the Yankees, posting a .720 OPS with 11 extra-base hits and 13 steals in 41 games.
