Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman doesn't want to be traded before the Aug. 3 deadline, but the pending free-agent also understands he doesn't control what is going to happen.
"I hope I don't go anywhere," Gausman said following Toronto's 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. "I don't wanna go anywhere. That would be my wish, and that would mean we're playing good baseball. But, I also realize this is a business, so whatever happens is out of my control."

The 35-year-old pitched well during Sunday's loss to the division-rival Red Sox, allowing three earned runs and striking out six across six innings. Gausman's ERA remained at 4.51 following the outing, which is his highest mark since joining the Blue Jays before the 2022 season.

Despite an increase in ERA and WHIP, Gausman remains a durable starter who averages about a strikeout per inning. His 2025 postseason experience also makes him the type of rental pitcher contenders are usually seeking at the trade deadline.
Gausman, who can reportedly block trades to eight teams, is owed the remainder of his $23-million salary for this season.
