The Cleveland Guardians acquired outfielder Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for catching prospect Jacob Cozart, the teams announced Monday.
Adell, a former first-round pick (10th overall) of the Angels, has spent his entire seven-year career in Anaheim. The 27-year-old has struggled at the plate this year, sporting a .239/.287/.395 slash line with 16 homers and 62 RBIs in 456 plate appearances.
However, he's also just one year removed from a career-best season that saw him post a .778 OPS with 37 homers. The Guardians are obviously hoping that a change of scenery can help him rediscover that power and add some pop to a lineup that needs it.
Adell has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining.
The Angels made the trade despite having a pair of Adell-themed promotions on the calendar later this season.

Cozart, the Guardians' No. 18 prospect prior to the trade (per MLB.com), was Cleveland's second-round pick out of NC State in 2024. The 23-year-old is hitting .239/.330/.384 with 10 homers and 44 RBIs across 79 games with Double-A Akron this year.
To make room for Adell on the 40-man roster, Cleveland designated infielder Juan Brito for assignment.
