The New York Mets hired Andy Green as their full-time manager, inking him to a three-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
"Over the course of the season, it became evident that the next manager of the New York Mets was already in place," president of baseball operations David Stearns said. "Andy has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and a unique ability to forge connections with our emerging core and distinguished veterans. I look forward to continuing our great partnership as we turn toward the 2027 season."
Green began the year working in the Mets' front office as senior vice president for player development. He was expected to return to the position at the end of the 2026 season after taking over the managerial role on an interim basis on June 26, when the organization fired Carlos Mendoza.
"When I accepted the interim role, I didn't anticipate it becoming permanent, but the more time I spent with our players and staff, the clearer it became that this is where my passion and experience could make the greatest impact," Green said in a statement.
The 49-year-old led the Mets to a 37-38 record as interim manager after the team went 34-47 under Mendoza this season.
