The Philadelphia Phillies named Don Mattingly as their full-time manager, the team announced Wednesday.

Additionally, the club signed him to a two-year contract through the 2028 campaign.

Mattingly began the 2026 season as Philadelphia's bench coach but took over as interim manager when Rob Thomson was fired following a 9-19 start. The Phillies went 79-55 under Mattingly before losing to the Atlanta Braves in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

The Phillies reportedly reached out to Alex Cora about their managerial role after their postseason ended, but he supposedly plans to take the 2027 season off. Philadelphia also approached Cora in April upon letting Thomson go. Cora previously managed the Boston Red Sox under the Phillies' current president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski.

Mattingly owns a 968-1,005 record (.491) in 13 seasons as an MLB skipper. The 65-year-old has also managed the Los Angeles Dodgers (2011-15) and Miami Marlins (2016-22). He worked for the New York Yankees (2004-07) and Toronto Blue Jays (2023-25) in various coaching roles as well.

Philadelphia won't bring back hitting coach Kevin Long and infield coach Bobby Dickerson, sources told NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury.

The Phillies have made the playoffs in five straight seasons but haven't won a World Series since 2008.
