Warriors retiring Iguodala's No. 9 jersey
The Golden State Warriors announced Tuesday that they'll retire Andre Iguodala's No. 9 jersey following their matchup with the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 23.
The four-time NBA champion will be the seventh player in franchise history to have his number enshrined in the rafters, joining Wilt Chamberlain (No. 13), Tom Meschery (No. 14), Al Attles (No. 16), Chris Mullin (No. 17), Rick Barry (No. 24), and Nate Thurmond (No. 42).
Iguodala, who turned 41 on Tuesday, played eight seasons over two stints with Golden State but left his mark on the franchise during his first six-year run.
After a decade as a full-time starter, including his debut year with the Warriors, Iguodala was moved to a reserve role for the 2014-15 season and became a significant contributor off the bench. That year, he helped the Warriors capture their first of three titles over the next four campaigns. Iguodala was also named 2015 Finals MVP in part for his defense against then-Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James throughout the series.
Following a brief two-year period with the Miami Heat, Iguodala returned to Golden State in August 2021 and played the final two seasons of his career in the Bay Area. Though he played sporadically in his penultimate 2021-22 campaign due to back injuries, he was part of the roster that helped win his and the Warriors' fourth championship in a decade. Iguodala returned for 2022-23 but didn't make a postseason appearance after playing just eight regular-season contests.
