The rib injury that forced Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. out of Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens isn't considered serious, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Penix could play in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears, but the Falcons will assess his ability to practice this week before making a decision, Schefter adds.
The 2024 first-rounder got injured while being sacked by Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson late in the fourth quarter Sunday.
Backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa replaced Penix for one play as 27 seconds remained in regulation. Penix then briefly re-entered the game and threw an incompletion before the Falcons punted on the final play of regulation. Tagovailoa took over once again to begin overtime.
Penix missed Atlanta's first two games of the season while recovering from an ACL procedure that he underwent last November. The Falcons lost both contests.
After being deemed healthy, Penix led the team to victories over the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively.
Atlanta (2-3) is in second place in the NFC South.
