Sweden goes with Gustavsson in 4 Nations opener vs. Canada
Sweden entrusted Filip Gustavsson with its crease in its 4 Nations Face-Off opener against Canada on Wednesday night.
Gustavsson is 22-11-3 with a .915 save percentage in 37 games for the Minnesota Wild this season.
Gustavsson got the nod over Ottawa Senators netminder Linus Ullmark and Philadelphia Flyers puck-stopper Sam Ersson, who replaced the injured Jacob Markstrom of the New Jersey Devils.
The event is Gustavsson's fifth with Sweden. The 26-year-old helped the Tre Kronor claim silver at the Under-18 World Championship in 2016 and at the world juniors two years later. He also helped his country win bronze at the World Championship last May.
Canada started St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington for the tournament opener, with Adin Hill of the Vegas Golden Knights backing him up. The Montreal Canadiens' Sam Montembeault is a healthy scratch.
