Stars ink Wyatt Johnston to 5-year extension with $8.4M AAV
The Dallas Stars signed forward Wyatt Johnston to a five-year extension with an average annual value of $8.4 million, the team announced Saturday.
Johnston could have become a restricted free agent this summer. He can become an unrestricted free agent once his new pact expires in 2030.
The 21-year-old has potted 23 goals and 59 points in 62 outings this season. He's on pace for his second consecutive 30-goal campaign in his third NHL season.
Johnston has already established himself as a key playoff performer for Dallas. He racked up 10 goals - including two game-winners - and 16 points in 19 contests last spring during the Stars' run to the Western Conference Final.
He has the same agent - Andy Scott - as Mikko Rantanen, who was acquired Friday by Dallas and subsequently signed to an eight-year, $96-million extension.
The Stars selected Johnston with the 23rd overall pick at the 2021 NHL Draft. He's totaled 79 goals and 165 points in 226 career games.
