Jets' Ehlers expected to miss start of playoffs with week-to-week timeline
The Winnipeg Jets will likely begin their postseason run without Nikolaj Ehlers.
The speedy winger is out week-to-week with a foot injury, head coach Scott Arniel announced Tuesday, per TSN's John Lu.
Ehlers had to be helped off the ice after an awkward collision with an official during Saturday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks that aggravated a previous foot injury.
The 29-year-old recorded 63 points in 69 games this season - good for third on the Jets and one shy of matching his career high. He's set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
On the bright side, Gabriel Vilardi is nearing a return for the Jets. The forward hasn't played since March 23 due to an upper-body injury, but his status has improved to day-to-day. Vilardi's tallied a personal-best 61 points in 71 games this season.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Saturday. Winnipeg's Round 1 opponent is to be determined.
