Canucks sign Forbort to 1-year, $2M deal
The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Derek Forbort to a one-year, $2-million contract on Tuesday.
"Bringing Derek back for another season is an important move for our group," said general manager Patrik Allvin. "His strong defensive play and solid work on the penalty kill really helped solidify our back end this past year. Derek has a strong voice in the room and some impressive leadership qualities, and we will look to him to help our team continue to grow and improve this coming season."
Forbort joined the Canucks last summer on a one-year, $1.5-million deal. He appeared in 54 games this past campaign, notching 11 points while averaging 17 minutes per contest.
His new contract doesn't include any trade protection and makes him eligible for unrestricted free agency next July.
The Los Angeles Kings drafted Forbort 15th overall in 2010. He's played for the Kings, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, and Boston Bruins throughout his career.
