Canada's Morrissey won't play vs. France, not ruled out of Olympics
Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey won't play Sunday against France but isn't ruled out for the rest of the Olympics, head coach Jon Cooper said Friday, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
Morrissey didn't suit up for Friday's round-robin win against Switzerland after sustaining an injury against Czechia.
The Winnipeg Jets blue-liner exited Canada's tournament opener Thursday in the second period and was unable to return. Travis Sanheim drew into the lineup in Morrissey's absence, while Seth Jarvis dressed in place of Brad Marchand.
Logan Thompson started in net after Jordan Binnington's 26-save shutout against Czechia. Darcy Kuemper served as backup. Canada was expected to make a change between the pipes in the second half of a back-to-back.
Thompson has posted a .912 save percentage in 39 appearances for the Washington Capitals this season.
Canada can't add an injury replacement for Morrissey now that the tournament is underway. The specifics of Morrissey's injury remain unknown.
Morrissey notched 42 points in 56 games for the Jets prior to the Olympics. He started Thursday's contest on Canada's second defensive pairing with Colton Parayko.
