Crosby to miss at least 4 weeks after Olympic injury
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been placed on injured reserve and will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks due to a lower-body injury sustained while representing Canada at the Olympics, the team announced Wednesday.
Crosby suffered the injury against Czechia in the quarterfinals and missed his country's next two games, including Canada's gold-medal loss to the United States in overtime.
He notched six points in four contests in Milan Cortina. Canada's runner-up finish marked Crosby's first international best-on-best appearance that didn't yield a championship.
The Penguins return from the Olympic break holding the second spot in the Metropolitan Division with 70 points. Crosby leads the team with 59 points in 56 games.
The 38-year-old set an NHL record last season by producing his 20th consecutive point-per-game campaign since being drafted first overall in 2005.
Crosby had missed only three contests dating back to 2021-22 before his current injury.
Pittsburgh has missed the playoffs the past three seasons. The club returns to action Thursday against the New Jersey Devils.
