Marcus Johansson will not return to the Minnesota Wild next season. Instead, the 35-year-old signed a one-year deal with Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League, the team announced Friday.
He was set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Johansson notched 49 points last season, the second most in a single campaign in his 16-year NHL career. He played a key middle-six forward role for the Wild in each of the last four seasons.
A two-time Swedish Olympian, Johansson played in the Farjestad program for four seasons before turning pro.
