The Dallas Stars signed forward Sam Steel to a four-year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $3.7 million, the team announced Monday.
Steel was scheduled for unrestricted free agency next summer. He'll play out the 2026-27 season under the final year of his current contract, which pays him $2.1 million per year, before his new deal kicks in.
The 28-year-old is set to enter his fourth campaign with the Stars following stints with the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild. Steel notched a career-high 12 goals and 33 points last season while averaging over 16 minutes per contest.
Dallas is projected to have over $39 million in cap space for next season, per PuckPedia, but has only 12 players signed. The Stars' most notable player in need of a new deal is winger Jason Robertson, who inked a one-year contract to stay with the club over the offseason but will be an unrestricted free agent in July if he doesn't extend.
