The Montreal Canadiens recalled goaltender Jacob Fowler from the AHL's Laval Rocket on Wednesday, the team announced.

The move comes after netminder Sam Montembeault departed Wednesday's practice early with an apparent injury.

Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said after practice that Montembeault was still being evaluated.

Fowler was off to a strong start with the Rocket, registering a .945 save percentage through two games. The 21-year-old posted a .908 save percentage in 17 contests with the Canadiens last season.

Montembeault has not yet appeared in a game in 2026-27. He struggled mightily with an .872 save percentage in 25 appearances with the Canadiens last campaign.

Montreal's No. 1 goalie, Jakub Dobes, has endured a rough start to the new season, recording an .857 save percentage in three starts.
