Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly sustained a lower-body injury Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens and was unable to return.

Rielly logged 5:45 in the first period before heading down the tunnel. Head coach Jim Hiller didn't have an update on the blue-liner after the game.

"Obviously didn't finish, never a good sign," Hiller said, per Sportsnet's Anna Dua.

Rielly entered the contest with 12 points in 17 appearances on the season while averaging 19:31 per game.

Injuries have been an obstacle for the Maple Leafs early this season. John Tavares returned from a nine-game absence Saturday, and Kirill Marchenko remains sidelined with a knee issue.

Toronto lost 4-2 to Montreal on Saturday to fall to 8-8-2.
