The Americans will be joined by Germany and Belgium, which finished second and third in Group C, respectively. The Belgians dominated Japan on the final day of the group stage, winning by 27 to surpass China's point differential of minus-1 by a single point.

Group B will also have three nations in the quarterfinals. France topped the group despite losing to runner-up Australia on the final day of the stage. Nigeria finished third and will be the first African country - in men's or women's competition - to take part in an Olympic basketball quarterfinals after it defeated Canada on Sunday.

Group A has an undefeated Spain and runner-up Serbia advancing to the knockout stages.

Canada, China, Japan, and Puerto Rico were the four countries eliminated from the tournament.

The final is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m. ET between the winners of the two brackets. The bronze-medal match will be played on the same day at 5:30 a.m. ET. The Americans are riding a 58-game winning streak and are seeking an eighth straight gold medal in women's basketball.
