Report: Man City to sign Semenyo from Bournemouth for £65M
Manchester City are signing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in a £65-million deal, reports transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Semenyo is expected to undergo a medical Thursday before signing a long-term contract and formally completing his move.
He was being eyed by several Premier League clubs, but chose Manchester City because he wanted to work with Pep Guardiola, Romano reports.
Semenyo's Bournemouth contract included a £65-million release clause that had to be activated before Jan. 10, according to Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport. That deadline was put in place to give the Cherries ample time to find a replacement during the January transfer window.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted that Wednesday's match against Tottenham Hotspur could be Semenyo's last for the club.
"Antoine will play tomorrow, yes," Iraola said during a press conference Tuesday.
"If you ask me personally, 'what do you think?' With all the noise, I think it could be (his) last game, but I cannot guarantee it," the coach added.
The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham were all tracking the dynamic winger prior to the January transfer window, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
He was also linked with Manchester United.
Semenyo continues to be Bournemouth's standout attacker, leading the team with nine Premier League goals. Only two players - Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago - have more this season in England's top flight.
The Ghanaian international has also provided three assists, and should add another credible threat to a side that relies heavily on Haaland for goals. The prolific Norwegian has a league-leading 19 tallies on the campaign, but nobody else has more than seven for Guardiola's side.
Manchester City sit second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Arsenal after 20 matches.
