Red Sox DFA Bobby Dalbec
The Boston Red Sox designated corner infielder Bobby Dalbec for assignment Sunday.
Dalbec has struggled this season, with the former highly touted prospect hitting .133/.217/.193 with one homer and three stolen bases over 37 MLB games while primarily playing first base.
"If you look at the swing-and-miss percentages, he's up there," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, according to MassLive's Christopher Smith.
"He's still a good player. Good defender. Has some pop. He's a good athlete. So we'll (see) what happens in the upcoming days, and then we'll know more."
The 29-year-old has been with Triple-A Worcester since late June after being optioned to the minors.
Over parts of five seasons in the majors, Dalbec has posted a .714 OPS with 47 homers and nine steals over 331 contests. He enjoyed a promising start to his MLB career, hitting .243/.308/.511 with 33 dingers in his first 156 games through his sophomore campaign.
Boston's latest move clears a spot on the 40-man roster to select right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts. Boston also optioned righty Chase Shugart.
Fitts owns a 4.17 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 116 2/3 innings while making 23 starts and one relief appearance for Triple-A Worcester this year.
The Red Sox acquired the 24-year-old pitcher from the New York Yankees before the 2024 season in the Alex Verdugo trade.
