Tigers add Urquidy on 1-year deal with 2026 club option

The Detroit Tigers signed right-hander José Urquidy to a one-year, $1-million contract with a $4-million club option for 2026, the club announced Saturday.

The club option contains the following performance bonuses: $150,000 each for reaching four and seven games started; $300,000 each for recording 10, 13, 16, and 19 contests started; and $500,000 each for logging 22, 25, and 28 games started.

Urquidy didn't pitch last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. He started the 2024 campaign on the injured list because of a right forearm strain and eventually suffered a setback during a rehab assignment.

The 29-year-old owns a 3.98 ERA with 1.14 WHIP and 326 strikeouts in 405 innings (70 starts) over five seasons with the Houston Astros. He won the 2022 World Series with the club.
