Devers confident 'everything will change' amid rough start
Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers isn't concerning himself too much with a rough start at the plate through the season's first two games.
Devers donned a golden sombrero in Friday's loss to the Texas Rangers, striking out in all four at-bats. The 28-year-old has struck out seven times in his first eight at-bats.
"It's only been two games," Devers said postgame via interpreter, according to NESN. "I feel comfortable at the plate. I feel good. I haven't hit the ball, but I feel very good. It's only been two games, and I think everything will change."
Devers is adjusting to his full-time designated hitter status after the Red Sox announced they were moving him away from third base to make room for free-agent signing Alex Bregman.
"I know that I haven't done my job and I know that I haven't done what I'm supposed to do," Devers said. "But I know that everything will change."
Devers entered the 2025 season with only 21 games of experience at DH during his eight-year MLB career.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that Devers is the club's full-time DH moving forward and won't see time at third base when Bregman needs a day off.
