Rockies' Bryant not considering retirement amid degenerative disc disease

Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant said Sunday that he isn't considering retirement despite being diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disc disease.

"I want to see all my options, too, so that I’m not, like, in constant pain and nauseous, where I can’t eat, which was the situation today," Bryant said, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding. "I woke up not feeling great. It’s just extremely frustrating."

Bryant has dealt with a myriad of injuries during his MLB career, including a back issue in 2024 that resulted in two separate stints on the IL.

The 33-year-old is in the fourth season of a seven-year, $182-million contract.

"I want to play. I want to talk to doctors, see if there’s anything else we can do," Bryant said. "But, yeah, I want to not give up."

Injuries have limited Bryant to just 170 games over parts of four seasons in Colorado.
