Mariners' Gilbert exits with forearm tightness: 'Could be a lot, lot worse'
Seattle Mariners ace Logan Gilbert left Friday's start against the Miami Marlins after three innings with right forearm tightness.
Gilbert acknowledged postgame that he'll likely have an MRI on Saturday to determine the extent of his injury, but a source told MLB.com's Daniel Kramer initial medical reviews showed modest but "not zero" concern about the injury. The same source told Kramer there is optimism Gilbert's UCL is intact.
"I don't want to make it like a pity party about myself," Gilbert said, according to Kramer. "But I take a lot of pride in that, just kind of how I want to be known - eating innings and being dependable and being healthy. I can't control all of that. But I've been healthy and never really came out of a start. I think this is the first one."
Gilbert, who has never been on the injured list during his big-league career, didn't allow a baserunner in his abbreviated start before being replaced by right-hander Casey Lawrence.
"I've got a lot of faith," Gilbert said. "God's got a plan. I trust in that. I think it'll be all right. I think it could be a lot, lot worse. So we'll see what happens."
The 27-year-old All-Star owns a 2.37 ERA with a 0.79 WHIP and 44 strikeouts over 30 1/3 innings (six starts) this season.
Gilbert logged a career-high 208 2/3 innings last year before finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting. He's amassed 734 2/3 innings (127 starts) since his 2021 rookie season.
