Red Sox slugger Casas carted off with significant knee injury
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas exited Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins on a cart after sustaining an injury while running to first base on a groundball.
"It's a significant knee injury," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said postgame, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo. "He's at the hospital right now, getting more tests and all that stuff. We'll have more information (Saturday)."
Casas was replaced at first base by Romy Gonzalez.
A fractured rib limited Casas to 63 games last season.
The 25-year-old is slashing .182/.277/.303 with three home runs, three doubles, 11 walks, and 11 RBIs across 29 contests this campaign.
The Red Sox could look at Nathan Hickey or Abraham Toro as possible options in Casas' absence. Hickey, a fifth-round pick in 2021, has three home runs and 14 RBIs at Triple-A this season. Toro, 28, has 34 home runs and 134 RBIs across 365 career games.
