Mets' Peterson dominates Ohtani: 'He's just another hitter'

New York Mets left-hander David Peterson struck out Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani three times in an 0-for-4 performance during Saturday's 5-2 win at Citi Field.

"He's just another hitter. One of nine in their lineup," Peterson said postgame after dominating the reigning NL MVP, according to SNY. "That's how I look at everybody. Obviously, he's a great player, and he's done what he's done in this game. They have a lot of great hitters over there."

Peterson, who allowed just two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over 7 2/3 innings, has limited Ohtani to two hits over 11 at-bats over his career.

"I think he made him look human," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza added. "This is a pretty impressive player. ... Big-time performance there, not only on Ohtani but just overall."

Mets outfielder Juan Soto delivered the game's biggest hit, driving in two runs with a double in the fourth inning to give his club a lead that it would never relinquish.

The two teams have split the first two contests of the three-game series in a rematch of the 2024 NLCS. The Dodgers took that series en route to winning the World Series.
