Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper is out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a sore right wrist and is considered day-to-day moving forward.

"It's his right wrist, it's a little sore," Phillies manager Rob Thomson said, according to MLB.com's Paul Casella. "It's been sore for a while. He's been fighting through it."

Alec Bohm will start at first base Friday in Harper's place.

Harper on Tuesday returned from a five-game absence due to an elbow issue and played in all three games of Philadelphia's series in Toronto against the Blue Jays.

The 32-year-old went hitless in eight at-bats with five strikeouts in the final two games of the series.

"He's just having trouble swinging," Thomson said. "So, if it's affecting his swing, then we're going to hold him off and get it right."

Harper also navigated nagging right wrist and elbow issues last August.

The eight-time All-Star is slashing .258/.368/.446 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 57 games this season.
