How did Devers deal affect futures odds for Giants, Red Sox?
The Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world when they traded three-time All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Surprisingly, the betting market changed for only one team.
San Francisco and Boston were both +4000 long shots at theScore Bet/ESPN Bet before the trade, but the Giants moved to +3000, while the odds for the Red Sox remained the same.
The Giants also shortened from +1600 to +1400 to win the NL pennant and +1300 to +800 to win the NL West where they trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by two games. Their biggest jump came in the market to make the playoffs, where their odds improved from -135 (57.4% implied probability) to -170 (63% implied probability).
Since the deal, the Giants are the most bet-on team to win the World Series, accumulating 23.5% of the bets and 62.4% of the handle (money wagered).
The Red Sox, meanwhile, remained +1800 to win the AL pennant, drifted slightly to win the AL East from +1800 to +2000, and held steady at +180 (35.7% implied probability) to make the playoffs.
