Blue Jays trade Will Wagner to Padres

The Toronto Blue Jays traded infielder Will Wagner to the San Diego Padres for catcher Brandon Valenzuela, the teams announced Thursday.
Wagner, 27, was hitting .237/.336/.298 with seven doubles and one steal this season through 40 games with the Jays while primarily playing third base and first base.
The corner infielder broke out over 24 games last year as a rookie, posting a .788 OPS with two homers.
He's the son of Hall of Fame reliever Billy Wagner, who was inducted into Cooperstown as a member of the 2025 class this past weekend.
Valenzuela, 24, is hitting .229/.313/.387 with 12 homers and six steals over 87 games with Double-A San Antonio this year.
He has been in the Padres' system since 2018.
