Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette's left knee sprain is viewed as a short-term injury after he received a second opinion, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Bichette's knee is reportedly expected to improve with rest and rehabilitation.

The Blue Jays won't play their first postseason game until Oct. 4 if they hang on to win the American League East and finish with one of the top two records in the AL. Toronto enters Tuesday's action five games up on the New York Yankees for the division lead and six games ahead of the AL West-leading Seattle Mariners - the No. 3 seed in the league.

Bichette traveled to Dallas for the second opinion.

"That'll help kind of formulate a timeline for him going forward," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Schneider added that Bichette's injury is to the posterior cruciate ligament and the appointment is a "natural follow-up."

Toronto placed Bichette on the 10-day injured list with a knee sprain last Tuesday after he hurt his knee in a collision at home plate while facing the New York Yankees three days earlier. The shortstop remained in the game following a weather delay.

Bichette has been one of Toronto's best players this season. The 27-year-old has the most hits (181) and doubles (44) in the majors and leads the Blue Jays in RBIs (94) and batting average (.311).

The seven-year veteran will be a free agent at the end of the season.
