Lindor has stress reaction in hamate bone, may require surgery
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor will be evaluated for a stress reaction in his left hamate bone, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN.
Lindor is meeting with a specialist Wednesday to determine the next course of action, according to David Lennon of Newsday.
Stearns added that Lindor may need surgery, which would include a six-week recovery, but the executive is confident that the five-time All-Star will be ready for Opening Day if he undergoes the procedure, according to Castillo.
Stearns also said Lindor's injury is a recent development and that the Mets had no say in whether he was cleared to play in the World Baseball Classic, per Laura Albanese of Newsday.
The 32-year-old was left off Puerto Rico's roster for the WBC due to insurance issues.
Lindor hit 31 homers with 86 RBIs, 31 stolen bases, and an .811 OPS over 160 games last season.
