Crochet chased by Twins in 2nd inning after allowing 11 runs

The Minnesota Twins are going to be in Garrett Crochet's nightmares for a long, long time.

Minnesota jumped all over Crochet at Target Field on Monday night, plating 11 runs (10 earned) against the Boston Red Sox ace before he was mercifully pulled after 1 2/3 innings. Crochet, last year's major-league strikeout leader, didn't record a K and allowed nine hits while walking three and hitting a batter during the disastrous outing.

Minnesota went on to win the game 13-6.

The Twins scored four runs in the first before producing a seven-run second inning in which they sent 10 batters to the plate. Six of the seven runs Minnesota scored in the second came before Crochet had recorded an out in the frame. He was finally replaced by Jovani Morán after giving up a titanic solo homer to Ryan Kreidler.

Although his velocity was noticeably down during the brief outing, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said postgame that Crochet is fully healthy.

"It's tough. I guess, I don't really have anything to say," Crochet said, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. "I'm just going to try and flush it as best as I can and move on to the next one. They had a good approach."

Prior to Monday, Crochet had never allowed more than seven runs in a single outing. He had allowed six earned runs on the season entering the contest.

The performance marked just the second time in Crochet's career that he failed to strike out a batter in a start. The previous instance occurred on Aug. 27, 2024, when he was with the Chicago White Sox and threw just four pitches before the game was suspended due to rain. When that contest resumed the next day, the White Sox used a new pitcher.

The nine hits allowed also tied Crochet's career high.
