The American League's best team is about to get a big arm back in its rotation.

New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón is expected to come off the injured list and make his season debut Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone emphasized that the decision to reinstate Rodón on Sunday has not been finalized, according to SNY's Chelsea Janes.

Rodón began his season on the IL while continuing his recovery from offseason elbow surgery. He made three minor-league rehab starts over the last two weeks, tallying 16 strikeouts with a 3.38 ERA. In his final rehab outing at Triple-A on Tuesday, he allowed six runs (five earned) with four strikeouts and two walks over 6 1/3 innings.

Assuming he starts Sunday, Rodón will take the rotation spot vacated by rookie Elmer Rodríguez, who allowed five runs in his first two big-league outings. New York optioned Rodríguez to Triple-A after Tuesday's start.

Rodón, 33, enjoyed his best season as a Yankee last year, when he posted a 3.09 ERA and 1.05 WHIP along with 203 strikeouts while finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting. However, he struggled in the playoffs, allowing nine runs over 8 1/3 innings during New York's abbreviated postseason run.

The Yankees also started this season without Gerrit Cole, who missed all of 2025 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Cole is a bit further behind in his rehab process than Rodón, and he'll likely need "at least a couple more" minor-league appearances before rejoining the team, Boone said.

Max Fried and Cam Schlittler have led New York's rotation in the absence of Rodón and Cole, helping the Yankees generate a 25-11 record entering play Wednesday.
