The Chicago White Sox selected high school shortstop Landon Thome, the son of Hall of Famer Jim Thome, with the 34th pick in Saturday's MLB draft.

The White Sox acquired the pick Friday in a trade that sent infield prospect Jacob Gonzalez and reliever Brandon Eisert to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago drafted Thome after taking UCLA star shortstop Roch Cholowsky first overall.

Thome's dad, Jim, played with the White Sox for four years between 2006-09. He entered Cooperstown in 2018 after a 22-year career, finishing with 612 homers, which ranks eighth in MLB history.
