Francisco Lindor doesn't want to go anywhere.
The New York Mets star shortstop said he expects to stay in Queens for the five years remaining on his deal after signing a 10-year, $341-million extension that began in 2022.
"The plan is to be here for my contract," Lindor told Mike Puma of the New York Post on Tuesday. "When I signed up here, it was to be in the good times and bad times and to win."
Lindor, who's still owed $185 million, was the subject of rumors leading into the Aug. 3 trade deadline amid the Mets' disappointing season. Industry chatter has also suggested that New York will try to move the 32-year-old this offseason.
However, the five-time All-Star owns a full no-trade clause. He expressed confidence that the Mets' front office, headed by president of baseball operations David Stearns, will be able to turn the club into a contender next year.
"We have the right guys," Lindor added. "Stearns is the right guy. That is No. 1. We have one of the best owners in sports history, because (Steve Cohen) is going to go always with the energy that needs to be put into the team. When you are in a big market, there is not such a thing as rebuilding. There is a little bit of transition, that is it. You can't afford to rebuild in big markets, so I think we are working toward the right place. We have not taken a step backwards."
New York fired manager Carlos Mendoza in late June. The team entered the season with lofty expectations after adding Bo Bichette, Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr., Devin Williams, Marcus Semien, and Luke Weaver. The Mets traded Peralta and Weaver in a sell-off at the deadline.
The Mets (53-68) sit last in the NL East. The team hasn't finished at the bottom of the division since 2003.
