Cubs' PCA: Sammy Sosa 'told me I was gonna hit 3' homers

Cubs star outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong said a Chicago baseball legend predicted his historic three-homer performance Saturday.

"Sammy Sosa told me I was gonna hit three today, and I hit three, so put that on the record," Crow-Armstrong told Cubs reporter Taylor McGregor following a 17-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Crow-Armstrong strengthened his NL MVP case by becoming the youngest player in Cubs history to record a three-homer game. He finished 4-for-6 with six RBIs and four runs scored.

The 24-year-old accomplished the feat with a three-run blast in the seventh inning, which also gave him his fifth contest with at least 10 total bases this season.

Crow-Armstrong came up in the eighth against position player Jose Trevino with a chance to become the 22nd player in MLB history to hit four homers in a single game, but he grounded out.

"There's nothing to think there," Crow-Armstrong said when asked if he thought about hitting a fourth homer in his last at-bat. " ... I was thinking of taking everything, but I wanted to get four."

Crow-Armstrong hit his second round-tripper of the day in the second inning via a two-run shot.

Crow-Armstrong started the game with a leadoff homer off Andrew Abbott in the first.
