Report: Grizzlies entertaining offers for Morant
The Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers for Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
Morant is being pursued by multiple teams, and rival executives believe the Grizzlies are seeking draft picks and young players in any potential deal, Charania reports.
Memphis is reportedly open to building around Jaren Jackson Jr. and the team's young players or maintaining the status quo with Morant as part of a retool, according to Charania.
The Grizzlies selected Morant with the No. 2 overall pick in 2019. He's become the face of the franchise during his tenure, earning the 2022 Most Improved Player award, two All-Star nods, an All-NBA selection, and Rookie of the Year honors.
However, Memphis has won just one series in four trips to the postseason with Morant.
Morant's also battled injuries and has been suspended on multiple occasions for his off-court behavior. The Grizzlies issued Morant a one-game ban earlier this season after he reportedly responded to head coach Tuomas Iisalo in a dismissive and inappropriate manner during a postgame exchange.
Morant is averaging 19 points, 7.6 assists, 3.2 boards, and one steal across 18 appearances this season. He's missed the last three games with a calf contusion.
He's under contract through the 2027-28 campaign and becomes eligible for a three-year, $178-million extension this summer.
