The Atlanta Hawks promoted general manager Onsi Saleh to president of basketball operations and signed him to a long-term contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

The Hawks finished their 2025-26 campaign with a 46-36 record and reached the first round of the NBA playoffs, where they lost in six games to the New York Knicks. Saleh finished second in voting for NBA Executive of the Year, losing to Boston Celtics president Brad Stevens.

The Philadelphia 76ers expressed interesting in speaking with Saleh about their own head of basketball operations position, but the Hawks denied them permission, sources told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk and Shams Charania.

Saleh initially joined the Hawks as assistant GM in May 2024 and was promoted to GM in April 2025.

The Hawks have assembled a promising core including Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, and Onyeka Okongwu. The team traded away Trae Young in January and also acquired CJ McCollum and Jonathan Kuminga this season.

Atlanta has two first-round picks (No. 8 and No. 23) in the 2026 NBA Draft.
