Mensah settles with Duke, reportedly transfers to Miami

Darian Mensah and Duke have reached a settlement that allowed the quarterback to remain in the transfer portal, his agency announced Tuesday.

Mensah officially committed to Miami later on the day, a source told Pete Thamel and Max Olson of ESPN. The Hurricanes have been his preferred destination since he originally entered the portal.

Mensah announced his plans to transfer earlier in January, but Duke sued him in an attempt to block the move, arguing that the passer had a two-season contract with the program through 2026. A judge granted the Blue Devils a temporary restraining order before the two sides came to a settlement.

"We are committed to fulfilling all promises and obligations Duke makes to our student-athletes when we enter into contractual agreements with them, and we expect the same in return," the school said Tuesday in a statement obtained by Thamel. "Enforcing those agreements is a necessary element of ensuring predictability and structure for athletic programs. It is nonetheless a difficult choice to pursue legal action against a student and teammate; for this reason we sought to resolve the matter fairly and quickly."

Mensah, who transferred to Duke from Tulane in 2025, earned an All-ACC selection in his lone season with the Blue Devils and led them to the 2025 conference championship while throwing for 3,973 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.

Mensah's agency said the ACC title victory is a chapter in Duke's history that he's "proud to have been part of."
