Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko doesn't believe benching quarterback Marcel Reed will spark his offense after another poor performance in Saturday's 27-6 loss to Missouri.
"It just doesn't feel like that's the move that would help us," Elko told reporters when asked why he doesn't give sophomore Brady Hart a chance. "I will do whatever I believe is the right thing for this team to do."
He added, "That just doesn't feel like the right thing at the moment, but we have to evaluate it, and we'll see moving forward."
Reed finished the game completing 19 of 39 passes for 187 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked three times and finished with minus-18 rushing yards.
The 22-year-old signal-caller has failed to eclipse 190 passing yards and throw a touchdown in three straight contests. Reed's 108.4 passer efficiency rating ranks 125th among 128 qualifying FBS quarterbacks, according to TruMedia.
Texas A&M's offense has struggled to consistently move the ball since its 2-0 start. The program is now 3-3 on the season, marking the first time under Elko that they've lost three of their first six games.
"It's us making mistakes," Reed told reporters postgame when asked about the offense's struggles. "We got to fix our mistakes, and like I said, it takes 11 people to complete a football play."
The Aggies will face off against Citadel on Oct. 17 after their bye week.
