Oklahoma has parted ways with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, the team announced Monday.
"I have decided to make a change at offensive coordinator," head coach Brent Venables said in statement. "My responsibility is to the whole team and what I believe is best for us right now. We need a change."
The decision follows the Sooners' 42-25 loss to South Carolina on Saturday. Oklahoma has largely struggled on offense this season, averaging 22 points per game.
Tight ends coach Jason Witten will call plays and serve as the interim offensive coordinator moving forward. Witten, who carved out an illustrious NFL career as a tight end with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders, joined Oklahoma's staff in January.
Arbuckle was in his second season with Oklahoma. The Sooners went 10-3 and made the College Football Playoff last year, with Arbuckle's offensive unit averaging 26.2 points per game.
Arbuckle had tremendous success as Washington State's offensive coordinator before joining Oklahoma. The Cougars averaged 36.6 points per game in his final season as their offensive coordinator in 2024.
Arbuckle got productive play from quarterback John Mateer while at Washington State. Mateer, who transferred to Oklahoma in 2025 to follow Arbuckle, has thrown for 27 touchdowns to 18 interceptions in 20 appearances with the Sooners. He's recorded 13 passing scores to seven picks this year.
Oklahoma (4-4) will visit Florida (5-3) in Week 10.
