Giants' Schoen: Dart will benefit from being QB3
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen is a believer that quarterback Jaxson Dart sitting out in favor of veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston will further the rookie's development.
"The ability for him to learn and sit behind two consummate pros already will be beneficial for him," Schoen said Wednesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Schoen added, "We've played seven quarterbacks over the last two years, so he's going to have to prepare like he's going to have to play. So again, you want him to come in, develop a routine, learn how to be a pro, learn how to study the game, and then if his number's called and he has to go out and execute, he's going to need to be ready."
The Giants traded up to select Dart 25th overall in this year's draft. The Ole Miss product was the second quarterback to be taken after No. 1 pick Cam Ward.
Head coach Brian Daboll answered New York's QB1 question Friday, stating Wilson will be the team's starter. Wilson and Winston signed a one- and two-year deal, respectively, in March.
Dart led Ole Miss to back-to-back 10-plus win seasons in 2023 and 2024, but the team missed the College Football Playoff in 2024. He threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns against six interceptions.
